Actions taken by the Agropolis International association in conjunction with scientific communities

Two thousand seven hundred researchers and teacher-researchers, working in agriculture, food, biodiversity and environment, make up the Agropolis scientific community. They work at 74 different research units in Montpellier and the surrounding area, which in turn belong to 28 institutions of research and higher learning.

The Agropolis community is uniquely focused on the ecological sciences and constitutes the world’s largest cluster in this range of disciplines.

The community’s strength lies in the way it melds the themes of agriculture, environment, and biodiversity: from soil to plant, from cell to ecosystem, in temperate, Mediterranean and tropical climates.

The Agropolis International association is the driving force behind this scientific community, which it represents and promotes:

  • Providing its members with a platform for information exchange, consultation and other activities, with a view to promoting collective initiatives and advocating for the cluster’s interests before the various local, national and regional authorities.

  • Boosting the scientific community’s visibility at the national and international levels and, to enhance the cluster’s attractiveness, publicizing its areas of expertise and its scientific skills.

  • Affording association members an administrative and logistical structure they can use to implement their projects or collective actions.

The Agropolis International association, a support structure for its members’ activities

The Agropolis International association provides operational and/or logistical management for a number of projects or actions on behalf of its members:

French Scientific Committee on Desertification (CSFD) secretariat

This committee was created in 1997 by the ministerial departments in charge of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Ministry for Higher Education and Ministry of Research).
